TV Celebrities Give Talk at Hanover College
Nuñez and Baumgartner joke with the audience – Mar. 31, 2022 (Tilly Marlatt)
There are only so many unbelievable moments in your life. Moments that leave you awestruck. Moments where you think out loud, “oh my god they’re real.”
It’s not often where actors from your favorite show steps out of the screen and onto the stage in front of you. Especially in Hanover, Indiana.
After a two-year hiatus, the Hanover Enrichment Series was able to host another special event. On March 31, 2022, they hosted Brian Baumgartner and Oscar Nuñez from the iconic tv series, The Office.
Nearly 700 people gathered in the Collier Arena to hear Baumgartner and Nuñez speak.

Bickering and joking between Baumgartner and Nuñez were heard as their host, Peter Ashley, asked them questions. At one point, Baumgartner chased Nuñez around the stage and stage slapped Nuñez for a comedic bit.
The Vice President of Enrollment and Marketing, Ashley, asked the college’s guests an array of questions that allowed them to speak about their time on the show: from how they started, to challenges, to their favorite memories.
Baumgartner and Nuñez’s friendship corroborates Nuñez’s comment about The Office being a “cushy job”.

The director of strategic content, Carter Cloyd, spoke to the audience before the show, telling them that Baumgartner and Nuñez love to interact with the audience. This showed.
In the middle of questioning, Nuñez stopped to mess with two students working as ushers for the event, saying they were loitering.
One of these students he was referring to, Megan Brandt, said she was unphased by Nuñez making fun of them. She said that another student standing next to her, Justin Johnson, was starstruck. He loves The Office.
The audience was given the chance to ask Baumgartner and Nuñez questions. Many asked specific questions related to details from the show.
Although a lot of their answers were making fun of the questions the audience members asked, Baumgartner and Nuñez gave insider answers that would make any fan giddy.
Baumgartner and Nuñez told the audience that Toby Flenderson – Human Resources worker that was irrationally-hated by Steve Carell’s character, Michael Scott – was not originally written in this way. Through improv, Carell brought this reality to life, and it just stuck.
An audience member asked if Baumgartner and Nuñez if they took anything from the set after the show ended. Baumgartner took the jar of M&Ms and Kevin Malone’s name plate from his desk. Baumgartner was especially proud of the name plate until he realized it was always facing inward towards Kevin. The camera never saw the name plate. Kevin was just constantly being reminded of his name. It was very fitting, actually.
The members of the Hanover College community were so honored to have hosted these two famous actors.
